TROOPER INJURED IN BENTON COUNTY TRAFFIC STOP; SUSPECT IN CUSTODY

GARFIELD, Ark.  — A Rogers man has been captured and charged in the weekend assault of an Arkansas State Trooper.

Jaime Mena-Najera, 19, was taken into custody at 4 p.m. on August 31, 2026, after eluding law enforcement overnight. He was charged with Second-Degree Battery and Escape and transported to the Benton County Detention Center. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office and the Arkansas Division of Correction (ADC) assisted Arkansas State Police (ASP) in the manhunt and arrest.

Around 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, an ASP Trooper stopped a vehicle on U.S. Highway 62 after it was reported to have been driven recklessly. As the Trooper attempted to take the driver into custody, the suspect assaulted the Trooper and fled the scene on foot.

The Trooper sustained a laceration and contusion near his eye and an abrasion to his arm. He later drove to Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville, where he was treated and released.

The investigation remains ongoing. No additional information will be released at this time.
